Kia Orana, friends supporting Sue & Robbie’s stay in Auckland for his continuing battle with bile duct cancer & the related complications.
International
Kia Orana, please help support Robbie’s continuing battle with bile duct cancer and the related complications, with Sue at his side.
A lot of us friends and supporters of Sue and Robbie would like to give them a little something to make life a little easier for them, having been in the same situation. If they were here in Rarotonga we might have invited them over for dinner or caught up for a coffee in town but that isn't possible in their current location. Every little bit will help defray accommodation and other living costs in Auckland, as well as airfares home when they are able to return, and generally allow them to have some small pleasures.
As friends of Robbie and Sue, you have no doubt experienced their generous hospitality through the years whether at their in(famous)costume parties and less raucous gatherings, or memorable dining at Flame Tree, Ambala Garden, Tamarind, Rickshaw, La Casita, and the New Place Café.
We know they would rather be giving themselves during this difficult time for everyone, and never ask for help this way, so we have set up this page on their behalf.
While it is the best place to be in terms of treatment, staying in Auckland is costly, away from their home, family, friends, food garden, restaurants, and life in Rarotonga. And due to COVID-19 their Cook Islands business is not generating any income. They are not eligible for WINZ support due to not permanently residing in NZ and still having assets in Rarotonga. Nor are they eligible for Cook Islands government support as they are not present there physically right now.
Robbie has been his usual tough Cookie self, with the doctors being so impressed by his recovery from the operations. They do lots of walking when able to stay fit, and Sue has been cooking him plenty of nutritious delicious food. They took up painting during lockdown (Robbie for the first time) and are continuing to enjoy it, so they are looking forward to doing a mini-exhibition in the not too distant future.
They do hope to come home to Rarotonga once there are more frequent flights (in case of emergency) and fewer quarantine requirements on returning to NZ. I
We understand everyone is in a tough place right now, and may not be able to spare any funds, so we are not setting huge goals. Any small contribution you can make to relieving the financial part of the overall stress they are under at this time would be so fantastic and help them focus on staying well and enjoying the moments they can.
With a group of friends and Sue's daughter Pasha, want to help in any small way to help relieve part of the stress our friends Sue and Robbie are facing. Grateful for the many others who have also said they want to help, and this is one way that we can.
Every little bit will help defray accommodation and other living costs in Auckland, as well as airfares home when they are able to return.
