Kylie Darling needs you!

She’s 48, blonde, proud, hardworking, humble and a beautiful soul. She lights up a room but more importantly she lights up the lives of so many people.

Kylie married the love of her life Johnny only a year ago. She’s a mother to 2 beautiful children, 20 year old Meg and 14 year old Ollie. She is a daughter, sister, cousin and friend to many.

Kylie was diagnosed with incurable stage 4 metastatic breast cancer in October 2017. At the diagnosis the cancer had already spread to her liver, peritoneum, ovaries and skeletal system.

She underwent an intensive IV chemo treatment which was 6 doses 3 weeks apart and responded well. Since then Kylie has tolerated oral chemo and has been relatively stable until now.

In August 2019 Kylie’s health deteriorated and the cancer has progressed with complications affecting her heart and lungs.

Now Kylie is undergoing further IV chemo treatment for the next 12 -16 weeks, dependent on how her body tolerates the treatment. Afterwards the plan is to start on a palliative cocktail of hormone drugs, and best option currently available is Palbociclib (also known as Ibrance), this is taken in conjunction with a second drug Fulvestrant.

Palbociclib drug has had great success in stabilizing the disease and extending life. It has been described as a ‘game changer’ for women, keeping the cancer at bay for as long as possible.

As both these drugs are UNFUNDED in NZ, the cost for Kylie and Johnny will be $7,000 every month.

There is hope that both these drugs will be funded in the future but it’s likely the Palbocuclib will only be funded as a first line treatment as it has in other countries, so unfortunately Kylie will not be or would never have been eligible, as her cancer was too far advanced at diagnoses and chemo was the only option as first line treatment.

We want to provide Kylie with the opportunity to keep fighting and live life for as long as she can.

We are hoping to provide as many funds as possible to buy the required drugs.
