Please help Lauryn to recover from her head injury following a serious motorcycle accident in March.
Auckland
On the 21st of March 2019 Lauryn was cut off in traffic and ended up being flung from her bike, over the traffic and landed heavily, damaging her head and causing massive swelling and internal bleeding in her brain. They operated to relieve the pressure and were not sure how much damage had been done. She has been in a coma since then and on life support at Auckland Hospital.
Over the last few days she has started to wake up and respond to her closest whanau.
Doctors are pleased with the recent developments but concerned that her whole right side is not responding yet. There is some concern that she could have long term or permanent paralysis to parts of her body.
Although Lauryn has only been riding for a couple of years, she has ridden to both of the NZSR National Runs and has been a strong supporter and a great friend to us all. Her wild dreadlocks and familiar (loud) laughter identifies her above the crowd. She is a loving and helpful person to everyone she meets and her family and friends are rallying to her support.
Lauryns recovery is still uncertain and long term damage is looking very likely. Her children are being supported by friends and whanau but the road to recovery will be long and very difficult.
Your support will help the family to keep their vigil by her bedside as she recovers, and ensure her immediate needs are met.
She has spent her life counselling those in our community that are in difficult circumstances and now she finds herself with a prospect of a long and arduous recovery. I hope the community can show its gratitude for her years of service and give her the support and encouragement to fight her way back to health.
She is our sister, a friend and a good supporter of NZSR.
She needs some help to fight and regain her strength.
As one of her closest friends and also founding member of our NZSR group I will help to manage her assistance until she is able to look after it herself.
Funds will be used to support her children, cover her costs (utilities, rent etc) while she is unable to support herself, and provide her with the resources to assist her recovery and rehabilitation. We are trying to raise at least $10,000 to support her.
