Lifeline for Tererei

Kantererei (Tererei) Korina is a wonderful young woman who needs our help.

Since March this year, Tererei has become increasingly unwell. Already battling type II diabetes and hypertension, she now has a large (and growing) mass which is pushing on her intestine, causing intense pain, constant nausea and impairing her kidney function. As Vanuatu doesn’t have a CT scan machine, doctors are unable to fully diagnose or treat the problem. She has been in and out of hospital with numerous blood transfusions and is rapidly deteriorating. Her only hope is to travel to Fiji for a CT scan, and hopefully surgery if the prognosis supports that.

Tererei has no immediate family left in Vanuatu, she’s lost both parents and her only sister to health issues in recent years, and devastatingly one of her two brothers in the last few weeks. She’s relying on the moral support of friends and extended family (in her homeland of Kiribati and elsewhere). She’s been unable to work and therefore financially support herself since March due to her illness. She does not have health insurance.

We are seeking funds to get Tererei to Fiji for a CT scan and any follow up treatment/surgery. Money is needed for flights, accommodation, COVID quarantine fees, food, medical expenses, and hopefully rehabilitation.

At only 37, Tererei has so much life left to live. She desperately wants to get better so she start enjoying life again and make plans for the future.
