Little Lights: Single Mum & Two Babies

A member of our community and our dear friend was recently blindsided by the end of her relationship 5-days after giving birth to her second child via C-section.

Her postpartum healing has been affected due to the lack of practical support she had at home, and she is still experiencing near constant pain six months following the operation.

She is financially vulnerable and precarious, and the future she thought she had is no longer.

This is too many women’s stories’, women who have done everything in their power to give their kids and families are good life, yet life and the uncontrollable actions of others disadvantages them so heavily and to us, it's not good enough that their lives should be severely affected.

As we know, women face more financial challenges than men.

Why? Women, generally earn less, often doing the same job.

We take time out of our careers to have children and look after aging parents, so we spend fewer years working. We are more likely to be solo parents and we usually suffer more severe financial consequences when relationships end.

So what are we doing??

We want to raise enough money for this mother of 2 to buy her ex out of their small Auckland house and to set herself up to be financially independent so she can make decisions that affect her family for the better and to bring this horrible cycle to an end and setting a new precedent for all vulnerable women and families everywhere that we will be there for them.

We aim to take one small pressure off the many she faces, while showing her she is loved and worthy and by doing that, allowing women everywhere to feel the same weight of support from our network.

This forum provides those of us who feel helpless at her situation the opportunity to practically support her. Just as importantly, we want to show her there is a community who cares, that she is loved and cared for (in the same way she loves and cares over others).
