I'm wanting to raise funds to buy a disability vehicle
Wellington
In early July 2016, at the age of 56yrs, my husband Ian suffered a severe stroke.
Despite having intensive therapies over a period of 4mths he did not recover well enough to return home and is now in permanent residential care.
As Ian is such a young man it is really important for him to 'live life to the full'' as much as he can - spending time outside of the care facility and maintaining the contacts and friendships that he has built up over the years.
As he is now permanently in a wheeelchair, his only mode of transport for doing this is the wheelchair taxi.
While this is a good, we are totally reliant on it being available when he would like to use it, and somewhat limited by how far we travel because of the costs involved.
A return trip of further than 20kms is beyond our budget.
I'm involved because Ian is my husband and I love him dearly. I would like to make his 'new reality' as good as it possibly can be.
I would love to purchase a small 'disability vehicle' so that I could take Ian out whenever he want to go somewhere.
This vehicle would allow Ian to stay in his wheelchair, and enable me to wheel him up a small ramp into the back of the vehicle.
From there the sky is our limit .... have wheels do travel !
