Lorraine needs your help to kick cancer with unfunded Keytruda.

$5,140 donated

The goal is to assist Lorraine with paying for the treatment she so desperately needs, which is not currently funded in New Zealand.

Bay of Plenty

If you know Lorraine, you know how kind and generous she is. She always has a smile to share and a welcoming heart to all. Now Lorraine needs your help.

Lorraine has had numerous visits to the GP and specialists over the last two years and was diagnosed with a range of ailments from Diverticulitis to a heart condition, then it was decided that all her symptoms were stemming from her Rheumatoid Arthritis.  However It all came to a head in late May this year, when Lorraine started to feel out of breath and could no longer mow her beloved lawn. She was sent to Waikato hospital with what was thought to be Pneumonia.

Her condition rapidly worsened over the following days and by the time it was discovered it was found that she had progressed to Stage 3 Lung Cancer.

The family has been advised that her best chance is with the drug Keytruda. Sadly Pharmac only fund Keytruda for the treatment of Melanoma in New Zealand, without funding the treatment could cost up to $80,000.

Being a proud woman, Lorraine would not ask for help herself so her family and friends are doing so on her behalf.

Throughout Lorraine’s life she has seen many hardships, losing her son to Brain Cancer at age 6, her mum to Stomach Cancer and then her husband to Lung Cancer.  Throughout these ordeals she has always kept her loving and giving nature. Her home has always been open to everyone and she has given so much to her family and friends, a shoulder to lean on or a loving gesture of baking, jams and relishes.  With a beautiful smile on her face, her only expectation was the return of the jars and containers to refill next time they visit.

Lorraine has also been involved in the community, helping to feed those in need at Christmas time or helping at the local rugby club.

Lorraine is a loving mother and newly crowned grandmother, which has been a long awaited life highlight of hers. Knowing she may not be alive to see her granddaughter grow or even make her first birthday in December is breaking her heart by the day.

Our first goal is $15000 wich will get her started on her Keytruda treatment in 3weeks time.

Let’s give Lorraine the best chance she can to beat this so she can share the milestones to come with us.

I will do whatever it takes to save my mum. There should be no price on my mothers life.

Use of funds

The money will be spent to help pay for the unfunded drug Keytruda. Any surplus money can be shared between the family to support them at this time of need and also with fellow people in need of Keytruda.

Sorry to say family/whanau/Friends and generous people that supported mum(Lorraine)

She Passed away 11:00am today unexpectedly with no pain and in peace, with family by her side.

Close Whanau/Family and friends thank everyone for the support. I ask that now the money raised is to support the direct funeral arrangements and what is left to be donated to the ever ending fight against cancer, the family will decide what foundation the money be used. Thanks again for everyone’s generosity.

As mum said only yesterday, “there are no words to explain the aroha/love she has right now” for the people that supported her.
