Lucky has torn a muscle in his right hind leg and further damage could cripple him. Help raise funds for his surgery!
Wellington
Lucky is an affectionate 8 year old N.Z. collie who has worked in the community helping many people. He has a torn muscle in a hind leg requiring surgery costing $1500 and owes vet bills after being poisoned last year.
Lucky is well-known in his community with an impressive list of good deeds. He has found missing children and many lost items such as keys, glasses, balls etc. He helped in Christchurch after the 2011 earthquake, providing relief to officers of the NZ Army and Police Force and NSW Rescue Team, particularly those working in the Red Zone. He visits local pre- and primary schools to play with children so they can learn how to relate to dogs and for five years accompanied Di with her blind and deaf friend to Wellington and Hutt Hospitals.
Lucky has previously been not-so-lucky. Last July he was taken and poisoned, but saved at the last minute when operated on within 10 minutes of getting to the vet. He underwent treatment at the vet hospital for four days. This has now left Di owing $700 in previous vet bills, on top of her own personal expenses which are becoming insurmountable – to the point where she is compromising her own medical bills.
Our goal is to raise funds to cover Lucky’s surgery and previous vet. bills, $2200 in total. In Di’s own words, help with funding Lucky’s surgery would be a God-send and any extra help with historic debt would be life-saving.
Diana and I are good friends. During the time I've known her, she has always put others before herself. Her faithful companion, Lucky, is an exceptional and conscientious pooch, and he has done a great deal for the community. We would like to see him get back to good health so he can keep on living a happy life.
Thank you! 16 June 2015
Hi everyone
It has been a couple of weeks since Lucky's cause finished and I just wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone who donated - incredibly, with everyone's help, we managed to raise just over $1000 - an amazing amount that will really help with Lucky's surgery.
Diana was stunned when I told her how many donations we received and has asked me to give you guys the biggest of thanks. She said the relief she felt when she heard and knew that she'd be able to pay Lucky's vet what he's owed was incredible.
An update on Lucky - Di let me know that she's fairly sure his left leg ligament has healed and the torn muscle doesn't seem so bad, although he does have some pretty big issues with walking. Di and her friends are keeping a tight check on him "going cuckoo" and leaping about when greeting friends so it definitely hasn't worsened.
With luck, Di is hoping that after having Lucky's vet reassess the tear it might even come out to be a little less than the original $1500 which was thought.
Thanks again everyone.
From Lucky, Di and Joe.
