Let's get behind Mark in his fight against cancer.
Auckland
Mark Adams from the Parts Department at Turner's Service Centre Penrose, is one hell of a good guy who has had a pretty rough year. After being diagnosed with Stage 3 prostate cancer in February, he underwent a prostatectomy in April. It was only once he had been ‘opened up’ that the surgical team discovered that due to its position, removing his prostate was too risky. Mark was stitched up again - a huge blow in his fight against this cancer.
The next step was a testosterone implant to temporarily ‘put the cancer to sleep’. 8 weeks later, Mark was informed that robotic surgery, only available through the private health system at a cost of $33,000, would be the most successful and safest way to remove his prostate. On top of that, a $3,000 CT scan was highly recommended to provide better imaging data to enable the surgeon to see exactly what was happening in and around the prostate area since the initial surgery. Months later, Mark's operation in October, has been a long time coming.
We can all appreciate the mental strain of being diagnosed with cancer and the financial burden of needing to borrow a huge sum of money simply to have a fighting chance. Mark is one of us; a decent Kiwi bloke who 'bleeds blue' and deserves all the support he can get. A little from a lot will make a huge difference for Mark and his family.
