Help Martine’s Journey w/ Acute Myeloid Leukaemia
Wellington
On Thursday the 25th of June Martine went to a doctors appointment & was told to go get a blood test done as they couldn’t determine what was wrong w/ her, her results showed that she had a very low count of blood cells throughout her body, she was told to pack her bags & head to Masterton hospital so she could be transferred by ambulance to Wellington Hospital.
While at Masterton Hospital a Hematologist Specialist from Wellington found concern in her results & wanted Martine to be transferred immediately. At 7pm she & our mum we’re flown over by plane, it was then Martine was diagnosed with Leukaemia.
So far Martine has had 3 blood transfusions, a Heart Echo Scan. MRI/CT Scans & a Bone Marrow Biopsy. From these tests they have revealed that she has Acute Myeloid Leukaemia.
Leukaemia is a type of blood cancer, when someone has Leukaemia the immature white blood cells divide too quickly in the bone marrow, and do not mature. This means the bone marrow is overcrowded with immature white cells that are not able to fight infection. AML is a cancer of the myeloid cells which develops very quickly and treatment must start right away. Martine will be starting Chemotherapy Treatment early next week, & will be in hospital for a long period of time healing/recovering.
On behalf of Martine & our whānau we would like to thank everyone for their aroha & support. Love is what is going to help pull Martine through so we want to surround her with as much as possible.
I am Martine’s older sister, 🤍
Funds raised will help whānau be able to travel to visit Martine, worst case scenario that Martine may require further treatment that may not be funded the money raised will go towards covering those costs & also to buy her wigs after her chemo treatment.
