Christchurch and South Auckland: Good Role Models Needed! We will train and support you to walk alongside children/youth of prisoners aged
Nationwide
To help children of prisoners reach their potential by matching them with caring and supportive volunteer adult mentors. You will be well supported and we have an emergency on call while you are on activities. You must agree to a 12 month commitment.
Pillars was founded over 30 years ago as a charity supporting one of Aotearoa's most vulnerable yet invisible populations- children with parents in prison. After three decades, Pillars children and families were honored to be named as the NZ Community of the Year at the New Zealander of the Year Awards in 2018.
Update for 08/12/2008 8 December 2008
Hi Guys Welcome to our community - especially those up in Wellington! We are looking for mentors living in Christchurch or Auckland (hopefully Wellington next). Are you concerned about kids and their problems? Are you comfortable listening, talking and having fun with young people? Can you commit to spending 2-6 hiours a fortnight for at least a year? WIll you undertake intensive training, agree to a police background check, and provide several references? If you answered YES to all of the above, we hope you will call. It will be next year before we start our introductory sessions again so please keep an eye on the PILLARS website www.pillars.org.nz We believe that?if every prisonerfs child was matched with a screened and trained volunteer mentor, we could easily halve New Zealandfs raging crime rate by at least 50% within the next 5 years preventing the next generation of 13,000 children from becoming New Zealandfs future generation of criminals. Warm Regards Verna
