Milly needs your help after years of neglect.
Northland
Milly was rescued from a place where she had been neglected for years, left in a huge paddock. Her paddock mate had died and she had been alone for a long time. When she was found her feet hadn't been trimmed so she was left lying in the paddock unable to walk eating the grass around her head. When the owner trimmed her feet he cut them so short she couldn't bear weight on any of them. We rescued Milly by buying her. However, by lack of knowledge and due care and failing to trim her feet properly, she has been left with a chronic condition and very painful feet that requires medication and regular trimming. Milly's trimming costs $50 per month and her painkiller is around $72.00. She is on a diet supplement to help her hooves grow which is $265.00 and that lasts her approximately 3 months. The farrier has suggested Milly could have rims to help her be more comfortable but this cost is approx $175.00 per month but would only be done after consultatiopn with the vet and an xray ( approximate cost $350). This is all on top of her general hay bill and worming costs.
Milly requires regular medication that is expensive and farrier visits once per month. Milly may benefit from having rims applied to her front feet to alleviate the pain of walking on the sole but this is an expensive ongoing procedure.
Millie Update 28 May 2020
Milly has had her annual dental checkup requiring lots of filing of the rear molars. She has had her xrays of her feet which have shown no further deterioration since 2017 ! Yay! The xrays did reveal that Milly had painful abcesses though in both front feet.
