Max has special needs, and is losing his Mum to cancer. This is to help with his needs at this time and in the future.
Canterbury
Max is nine years old, is autistic and has ADHD.
Max's mum Charlene was diagnosed with Stage 1-2 breast cancer in late November 2019, shortly before her 40th birthday. She commenced chemotherapy in January 2020, with the intention to follow that with surgery and radiation treatment. Unfortunately she developed some neurological symptoms, which revealed the cancer had metastasized to multiple tumours in the brain. Charlene's remaining time is measured in days and weeks.
Max is transitioning to living full time with his Dad from a shared custody arrangement, but money is tight in all directions, and there are limited funds available for extras.
Max is the most important thing in the world to Charlene, and as Charlene's loved ones, we are hoping to raise some funds for Max to have for extras in the near to medium term future: things like ASD specific aids and learning supports, extra respite care, school holiday and extension programmes, any private mental health support that might be necessary, and also for some treats and some special times with his Dad as he deals with losing his "beautiful Mummy"
Losing a parent at such a young age is unimaginably hard for any child, but it may be especially difficult for a neurodiverse kid, and we'd just like to make some things easier for him going forward if at all possible.
Givealittle cannot disburse funds to a minor's bank account, so the funds are designated to a bank account in my name for now until Max's Dad and I can work out the best way to keep the funds for Max in the future.
I'm Charlene's best friend.
All funds will be spent for the well being of Max.
Thank you! 4 September 2020
I’d just like to thank everyone for their donations to this fundraiser.
Charlene died on the 25th of July, and the lives she touched are much emptier for it, especially Max’s.
Your kindness has given Max a slightly easier journey on a difficult road. The success of this fundraiser also gave Charlene enormous peace of mind in her last weeks, knowing Max’s immediate needs were covered.
She was so touched and honoured by all the generosity shown here.
Thank you for that, and for all your support.
