DENNIS asks
Hi John and Mary,
As you can see by my involvement ,I have a genuine interest in the cottage restoration.
My mother( Isabel)was an Anderson I have only visited the cottage twice over the years and respect what has been done to maintain it so far.
The last thing I would want to do is to intrude on your great efforts so far,but can I ask if this project falls within anything that Heritage NZ can be approached on?At this stage I am not sure if it would meet criteria for assistance or if indeed you have already looked into this.If not( and as I live in Wellington)I would be pleased to at least investigate this with the appropriate Office.
I also thought that there would be more local support than there appears to be on Givealittle.
I do follow Marlborough Express on line and as this is obviously one of only 2 or 3 cottages of this era in the province ,perhaps they might be coerced into writing an article!I also think I read that the Marlborough Historical society had input into Cob Cottage etc and the B.C cottage does have a real place in the Provinces history. ie the Rosina Buckman connection and gold mining etc.
Sorry this might look like a bit of a ramble from a retired person with time on his hands but if there is anyway I could realistically help please let me know.
Regards,Dennis Smith,Churton Park,Wellington.
Incidentally,my GGg John's first cousin was an early settler near where I live .I f you are not aware there is lots to google under Nathaniel Bartlett or Bartlett house,Tawa. he looked to have arrived just before John B but in Wellington and was a pioneer in the area-tough stock!!
