Help Sonya travel to Spain to raise money for the foundation that has helped her through her cancer journey.
Waikato
My mother is Sonya Cuff, she is a 47 year old mum of 2 beautiful children. She also has active Myeloma.
Myeloma is a cancer of the plasma cells which means her tumours create holes in her bones and as her bones dissolve the calcium leaches into her blood stream causing confusion, debilitating pain and renal failure. Her condition is incurable, but at this stage a regime of chemo and medications are keeping her stable.
Thankfully during her 7.5 year illness she has had amazing support from the Leukaemia and Blood Cancer NZ (LBCNZ) team who have supported her and our family since 2015 with emotional, physical and even financial support, which is why she wants to give back – and what better way than their El Camino challenge! This is a trek from Sarria to Santiago (Santiago de Compostela) walking 113kms with the help of other LBCNZ supporters.

This is a dream for her twofold – She gets to support the LBCNZ team, and she gets to fulfil a bucket list dream to travel. The nature of her condition means that her bones will deteriorate and she will be unable to take on anything of this magnitude again. Her Specialist has advised it is unlikely she will be able to travel soon due to renal, skeletal and other health complications and inability to get medical insurance. This really is her last chance.
I am fundraising for her trip. As part of this challenge, we have committed to raising $3500 which will directly go to LBCNZ. We also need to fundraise $7500 for her flights, travel fees and specialised medical insurance of which we have raised $2000 ($1000 from savings) already in 2 weeks.
Can you help us please?

Before my mother becomes too sick to travel, she wishes to complete the Walk for Blood Cancer (El Camino) in Spain to fundraise for Leukaemia and Blood Cancer New Zealand (LBC)
- The money will be spent on flights and expenses for Sonya to travel to Spain, and walk 113km of the EL Camino pilgrimage trail.
- If there are surplus funds these will be donated to LBC and help with ongoing medical costs.
