Welcome to New Zealand Nepal Society!!
The importance of preserving language and culture in migrant communities
Thank you for browsing our Give-a-little page – fundraiser for Nepali culture preservation through language classes for children of migrated families.
Integrating into New Zealand society is a primary task for any migrating family, that of absorbing and enjoying all Kiwi culture has to offer. As well as passing this legacy on to their children, parents have an innate need to also pass on to their children something of the essence of the culture from which they originated.
One of the most effective ways to do that is through language studies. By its very nature, “language” reveals the similarities and the differences in cultures, enabling the collective acceptance of differences, while embracing and celebrating the similarities. Having different cultures thriving within New Zealand enriches the wider community by exposure to those similarities and differences, in the form of literature, art, and drama.
Preserving the language skills for the children of those migrated communities give a sense of stability to those children, that their differences are important and to be celebrated.
Please Give-a-little to help Nepali children remain in touch with their culture, and add to the rich experience that is New Zealand culture.
Funds raised will be used for hall hire $1,380.00 per year in YMCA in Panmure, Auckland and remuneration for the Nepali teacher and materials such as stationaries, books etc.
