The stray dogs of Nepal stole my heart. Please help me fundraise to support the ongoing care one amazing organisation provides.

Namaste. In Nepal street strays are everywhere. Dogs cower from an expectation someone will throw rocks at them or beat them with a stick. All any dog wants is a little bit of love but for Nepal dogs it is normally not the case. Most are neglected, starving, ill and malnourished. Riddled with parasites and fleas, they can be rabies carriers and also suffering from mange. Females will bear numerous litters and so the cycle will begin again as newborn pups enter the harsh life of being a street dog in Nepal. I am well aware that many dogs around the world are in the same situation, and even in New Zealand some dogs suffer at the hands of their owners - but on the whole we care for our pets and love them as one of our family members. I was recently in Nepal and fell in love with several wee strays that hung around in Changunarayan. These wee dogs were faithful friends - flea ridden and skinny, they followed us everywhere and craved affection. These dogs like all the other strays in Nepal, require treatment, vaccination and sterilsation. Recently a Government organisation came and in less than ideal conditions sterilised 8 dogs. Two of the females were recently pregnant. Sadly one sweet wee female died from this procedure because the Government programme does not take the dogs to a sterile space to treat them - they perform the procedure on the spot, which means the animals cannot be monitored, given antibiotics or pain relief as more often than not they take off as soon as they come to. BAWS (Bhaktapur Animal Welfare Society) is an NGO (Non-Government Organisation) that is based in Bhaktapur. It was founded by Pranav Joshi. They take care of stray dogs providing treatment and sterilisation in a catch - treat - release programme. They do not take the dogs back to their area until they have recovered adequately from surgery. Pranav has spoken to me and said BAWS will go out Changunarayan and follow-up on the recently operated on dogs. They will also catch other Changu dogs to be sterilised and vaccinated and treated for parasites. Being an NGO they require donations in order to carry out their work. They have volunteer qualified vets and Pranav is an empathetic and concerned vet who wishes to see these dogs treated as humanely as possible. He is genuinely concerned for the welfare of street dogs in Nepal - please check out his youtube clip and see the amazing dedication this man has - he sees the root of the issue and is incredibly determined to help! Whilst it does not solve the stray dog or neglect issues, it goes a long way towards ensuring that the numbers of dogs who can breed and pass on infectious diseases is reduced, and that some dogs experience some love and care. What BAWS does is nothing short of AWESOME!. Please help me help BAWS (and thereby help the dogs of Changunarayan too). Please donate or if you are a vet and wish to provide instruments that can be sent over then please contact me at zoomlily@hotmail.com
Check out my photos from the recent Nepal trip I did and the dogs who sat in front of my camera.
Because I love dogs! I was in Nepal recently and I saw the way stray dogs live with no care and no positive human contact. It saddened me. Whilst I cannot "save" these dogs, I know I can do something to help make positive changes for them. Please help me help BAWS. I love the work that they do!
