Nerin Square Daffodil Initiative
Our aim is to plant daffodils in Nerin Square to create an island of beauty and a chance to remember those we have lost to cancer.
OtagoWe have all either lost someone to cancer or know of someone who has suffered the tragedy of cancer. It rips life from our nearest and dearest often all too soon and tears families apart.
The Nerin Square Daffodil Initiative wants to give our community the chance to recognise and remember our loved ones, while creating an island of beauty and remembrance right in the heart of the Lakes Hayes Estate, by planting thousands of daffodils right throughout the square.
Each $10 donation buys a 10 pack of bulbs
When the daffodils are in bloom during spring, Nerin Square will be enjoyed by generations to come whilst at the same time remembering those who have been lost to this devastating disease.
Nerin Square was designed as the centrepiece of Lake Hayes Estate but is often derided as pointless, disconnected, and seen only as an inconvenient traffic island.
Reimaginging Nerin Square's future by planting daffodils will lighten the communities spirits every spring and serve as a reminder to those that we have lost.
Thanks to mitre 10 we will be having a planting day in March where those who have bought bulbs can come and help create this beautiful space. There will be a bbq and drinks and a celebration of being able to contribute not only to making our community more beautiful but giving the donation raised to the cancer society.
