In desperate need of Marae DIY

Northland

Our Marae is rich in history being nestled in the beautiful valley of Te Ngaere. We have seen many whanau cross our atea for a range of events and we pride ourselves on being able to manaaki whanau. Although our whare may be small in size, we are huge in aroha and whanau and it is important we keep our home fires burning.

We have been accepted to be a part of the TV show Marae DIY with a mid-March 2018 DIY date. This gives our hapu the opportunity to have our hard work televised and can share with everyone the process we will go through and the final reveal of our hard work. But with any DIY we need funding to get the mahi done! We have some big mahi, we also have whanau to help get it done.

Our Marae has weathered many storms and it is starting to show. In order to keep our whare standing we are needing to do urgent repairs. We are a proud hapu who love our Marae and whenua and we are starting to prepare ourselves to do the upgrade we desperately need.

Our ceiling is falling and so is our roof. Our outside panels are rotting and this means that our whare won’t continue to stand at this rate.

Our toilets are old and are in desperate need of revamping. Our tin roof also has holes coupled with windows with no glass makes for neat air conditioning, but not so neat when it rains. Our wharepaku block is an ongoing issue which we will continue to improve over time.

We are blessed to have a large green space on our whenua and we are looking to landscape to reflect the natural beauty of our valley. We have been slowly ticking away at the space between and our wharekai and whare moe with small working bees and now we are ready to get creative!

All funds will go to our DIY and you can see it all on TV! We rely on donations to get our mahi done and hopefully you can support this kaupapa.

Use of funds

We are looking at a new roof, new ceiling, insulation in the ceiling, replacing outside panels, covered walkway to the wharepaku, disability access to whare kai and whare moe and general tidy up in wharepaku and showers. Putea will be spent on the DIY.

Kia ora whanau! We are a little late to the party, but I've recently moved back to Aotearoa. Recently attended a hui with the Maaka Puhipi whanau with my sister, Taako Piaso and Mum, Colleen Wickliffe (eldest daughter of Tuwai Maihi Maaka). So good to reconnect with whanau. Hope this putea helps!
