Earthquake relief for Nicola and family in Ecuador

21/4/16

  21 April 2016

Dear family,

I am sending this message via a volunteer that was here during the earthquake in Canoa and came after that to Rio Muchacho but made it to Quito today. (Hey, my name is Lena and Nico gave me a paper with this mail for you so that you are informed, I made it today with a lot of different cars to Quito and can send you this mail).

"We don't know when there will be internet and power in the area, so don't worry, we are all alive and we were lucky not to get a scratch. We are camping in a field and put a makeshift kitchen outside as well. Canoa is flattened and our office too. It is under a 4 story hotel but the two bottom floors sandwiched. The ecopaper workshop was there, so I guess that is the end of that too. Our house is apparently fine but it is safer to live outside until the after shocks subside. The main house is still standing but not in very good shape. The cabin you stayed in flipped and is half way over the bank. All cabins were affected or flattened. We are just trying to keep the animals fed ( with no pumps or shredder) until we figure out what to do. The cistern is full but the river is dry (due to a landslide).

The upside is that he kids get to see lots of helicopters and we get to go camping!

Please send this also to the rest of the family.

Love to all!
