From the smallest seed can an abundant harvest reap. Give a child the chance of a decent education and change outcomes.

If you were to think of your top three places to visit, would Honduras make the bucket list?
For me it’s a place close to my heart, however, poverty and hardship are abundantly present. An education founded on unconditional love and right principles will break this cycle.
Public education in Honduras is not without it’s limitations. Classrooms are typically overcrowded, resources are lacking, and the weaker or disruptive kids are often left at the fringes. This leaves a vast majority without the training necessary to make informed choices later in life. The alternative, for those who can afford it, is private education - But this comes at a cost.
I have had the privilege of working with many of these kids in the classroom. Some have come from divided homes, some are in the midst of hardship, while others have experienced trauma of some kind. All share a desire to learn and are showing the fruit of transformation. My desire is for each to realise that they are of immense value, and that they have the potential to achieve to their fullness.
The fallout from a recent pandemic has led to changes in circumstance. While every effort is being made to honour commitments, the burden has become much weightier for those who lack. For this reason I am appealing for a joint effort from an even bigger community. Eleven students across several grades require financial assistance. An annual scholarship to quality education in their area will see them receive the tuition they need. At current exchange rates costs equate to a little over NZD 1,000 per student.
I was a volunteer at the school teaching English as a part of the bilingual program. Scholarship recipients are students who currently attend the school.
Funds are being raised to provide scholarships to the most urgent in need. Surplus funding will either contribute to others in need, or extend scholarships into the following year.
School’s Out 16 December 2020
What a year it’s been. Amidst hardship and toil the majority have pulled through and can celebrate the fruit of their success. Four of those who received scholarships achieved awards for Academic Excellence, scoring an average above 90% across all their subjects.
On behalf of the students, parents, teaching staff and myself, a heartfelt ‘Thank you’ to all who supported these children this year.
Feliz Navidad y Prospero 2021.
