Not our future prisoners

$740 of $60,000 goal

Pillars is a charity for children of prisoners and we have children right now waiting for the gift of a mentor. We need your support.

Auckland

Pillars is a charity dedicated to supporting some of the the over 20,000 children of prisoners in New Zealand who are sadly over 9 times more likely to go to prison as adults.

No child grows up dreaming of going to prison and these children deserve a chance of hope and happiness and to grow into positive living adults like all children. Mentors can make a huge difference to how they feel about their place in the world.

This Children of Prisoner's Week we are launching a campaign to get 20 children off our waiting list for a Pillars mentor. We need your support to make it happen.

The direct cost of funding a mentoring match for one year is $3,000 to recruit train and support a volunteer mentor and give a child of a prisoner the hope and guidance they need.

Your donation can help be the difference for one more child to come off our waiting list and get the gift of a mentor and help make generational change.

Pillars' involvement (page creator)

I am proud to be supporting Pillars and Children of Prisoners Week so more children of prisoners can get the support they need. Through this campaign we hear their voices,we see their innocence, and we are reminded that these are just children. They have not committed any crimes, they do not aspire to go to prison, and they deserve to have dreams and the resources to realise them. It is so important that we support children of prisoners to have the kind of life we want all children to have, and to help create the communities that we all deserve. - Miiriama Kamo, Pillars ambassador

About us

Pillars was founded over 30 years ago as a charity supporting one of Aotearoa's most vulnerable yet invisible populations- children with parents in prison. After three decades, Pillars children and families were honored to be named as the NZ Community of the Year at the New Zealander of the Year Awards in 2018.

Can you be a Christmas angel?  20 December 2016

Thanks to the generous donations of gifts and treats more than 500 children of prisoners in New Zealand will have a brighter Christmas through the Pillars Christmas appeal. We personally give these gifts to the children and know how special they will feel when they receive them. But what more of these children really need is the life changing gift of a mentor. A stable, consistent, positive and caring role model to guide and support them in the coming year. Pillars are still raising funds for 20 more children to have a mentor in the next school year. Every dollar you contribute to this page goes towards that effort. We need to raise $60,000 to make it happen. What better gift in the season of giving than helping a vulnerable child have the life changing gift of a mentor?
