New Zealand University and Tertiary Students Rugby League International Tours

The NZ Universities and Tertiary Students Rugby League Association has had a proud history in providing opportunities for students to be involved in international Rugby League. Through international competitions and tours many alumni have gone on to have illustrious careers both on and off the field, and more importantly have created friendship and bonds for life.

The organisation has had a resurgence of interest and support of late, with many of its alumni coming back to support at Board level, and held the inaugural Tertiary Nines tournament in Wellington late last year. From this event some very talented players were identified to tour overseas.

The mens squad will tour to the UK in May, and for the first time a womens team will travel to Canada and the USA in June. Matches have already been set up in the UK and the women will be playing a test match against the emerging Canadian side who performed well at the recent World Cup.

The purpose of these tours is to provide the students involved, with positive sporting experiences that they will have with them for life. As always funding these tours is a challenge, particularly for those who are involved in tertiary study.
