Arran's Fundraising to compete in the 2017 FIRS Inline Hockey World Championships

Wellington

Hi there, my name is Arran Pavelich. I am a 16 year old student with an ENORMOUS passion for both ice hockey and inline hockey. I am so excited to have been selected to represent my country in the upcoming Fédération Internationale Roller Sports (FIRS) Inline Hockey World Championships in Nanjing, China.

My journey all started last year in around early August. I joined a local inline hockey team in Wellington, the Rimutaka Renegades, playing as a Forward and learning heaps about skating and stickhandling. Just as a national tournament approached last year, it looked like we might not have had a goalie for the under 16’s or under 19’s unless someone stepped up and I was determined that that someone was going to be me.

Success followed. I seemed to have some sort of hidden talent, our underdog u16 team from Wellington that had barely scraped together enough players to play, placed a hugely respectable 3rd place in the u16 grade and another 3rd place in u19 grade! This was the start, and in the past 10 months since I became a goalie I have pushed my training as hard as possible, training up to 6 days a week, often late into the night. Hockey is an amazing sport that I love to play and I am getting to the point where I have accomplished what I set out to do; become good enough to travel the world! This is happening now; my dream is becoming a reality and all of my family and supporters in NZ are really excited to see me travel abroad to China to represent New Zealand.

Both inline hockey and ice hockey in New Zealand get very little funding and this means all expenses are paid out of our own pockets. This is my first time representing New Zealand in a different country and I am hoping to make this trip as affordable as possible.

With only 4 months to go, I have been working incredibly hard to do my own fundraising, spending many weekends and evenings washing cars or mowing lawns, amongst other jobs. Despite my best efforts, the bill is still extremely expensive and that is why I am turning to all of you incredibly generous people for support. :)

All funds raised will go towards flights to and from China, accommodation for 10 days and fees for this international event. There are also the fees for the required NZ-based training camps and I will need to upgrade some of my specialised goalie equipment for international standards.

Any amount you could give would go a long way towards helping me make New Zealand proud!

Please feel free to contact me via this page if you have any questions

Use of funds

The funds raised will go towards helping keep costs down for new equipment where and when it's needed, fights to China, NZ training camps held around the country, team accommodation for 10 days and international event fees.

Some VERY sad news  31 May 2017

Well, last week I ordered a new Pro Spec mask from CCM which was certified to play in the world championships. It arrived last Friday...

On the way to training (on that same Friday night!) at some point in the journey, the mask somehow found it's way out of my bag AND out of the trailer and fell onto the road at motorway speeds... getting run over and dragged along the rough chip seal underneath someones car, then spewed out into the ditch. When we retraced our tracks for the better part of the night, I was absolutely beside myself with the condition I found it in. It is vital that I acquire a new mask of similar quality before the end of June otherwise I will not be able to play in China. In light of this recent event, I am doing extra work to try and save enough money to buy a replacement, however, these masks are going to cost an enormous amount; just slightly less than $1000. Any help appreciated with funding a new mask. The money raised via this page will be prioritised towards flights, accommodation and then a mask in that order. Images show on right: before picture of the mask. On left: after.

Thanks,

Arran
