This bike will give us more freedom as a family and access to terrain not usually accessible to wheelchair.
Southland
Hi dear people, my name is Ollie.
I'm 9 and 1/2 years old,
but my history has not always been so jolly.
At 7 1/2 months,
my mum sensed something was not quite right, so yes I was born 6 weeks early giving us all a fright.
Many tests later it appeared to be,
a rare chromosome deletion of which we would see,
the challenges my parents would face in raising me.
My nans writing this as I cannot speak.
I'm fed through a tube in my stomach,
so I don't know what its like to eat.
I've never crawled so its hindered my walking, mostly bum shuffling to get around so I can go gawking.
A wheelchair has come to my aid,
a bit higher up in the world,
I feel quite made.
The reason I'm telling you this is because we've found a bike for me.
My parents have a bike, my siblings too,
but because I'm special, the price is too.
It's not only so that I can ride with them.
My legs would get a good workout so when I'm not in my wheelchair or on my bike,
maybe I'll get strong enough to go on a hike.
So I guess what I'm asking,
is can you please help me financially,
to make this dream bike a reality.
My family and Nan too,
will be extremely grateful if you do.
Thank you.
There are certain activities that are more restrictive with a child in a wheelchair. We make it work by carrying Ollie to access places a wheelchair can't go. But like all children, Ollie is growing and gaining weight making it harder to carry him and enjoy the outdoors as a family. This bike will allow us to either tow him behind our bikes or push him over terrain the wheelchair can't go. It keeps extending so this bike will last him for life.
We have included a link from a recent Newshub article about the Tikes. We met Brian Gilbert and he found the trike best suited to Ollie is the green trike with black wheels. It's the first trike pictured in the article.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read about our goal for Ollie.
Ollie is our 9 year old son.
Funds raised will secure a bike for Ollie that will last him for life.
His wheels are on the way!! 1 October 2020
Amazing!! 🚴♂️
Thank you to everyone who donated, shared and liked our post to spread the word.
We are truly humbled by your support helping us achieve a bike for Ollie, thank you!
We will be meeting Brian from Trikes NZ at his roadshow in Invercargill on the 15th October so Ollie can be measured up. Brian will also show us how to operate a model bike so when Ollie gets his, he will be ready to pull those wheelies. Super excited!!
It's so much more than just a bike for Ollie. It's giving Ollie the ability to experience life beyond the limits of a wheelchair and uniting a family. It wouldn't have been possible without your help, thank you ❤
