3 year old Azalia has just being diagnosed with CLN2, Batten Disease... Please help to ease a little stress.

Bay of Plenty

We are all on this roller-coaster ride of life, but what we don't always see are the struggles of day to day life for many of our closest friends and whanau.

Three year old Azalia has autism and has been in and out of hospital for the last year with seizures. After my last conversation with Sheree, it seems that her and her whanau have hit rock bottom and they need support to get answers.

Azalia's Mum Sheree,

"I am feeling so exhausted today. Azalia is continuing to have seizures and as of late has been having many little ones and started having drop seizures where out of nowhere she will fly backwards and occasionally forwards, which also happen a few times a day. She has regressed in a way that she needs full time supervision, can no longer walk down steps, feed herself accurately and is very unbalanced. As Kelvin described it "we are waiting with the ambulance at the bottom of the cliff”

With being in and out of hospital numerous times throughout the year, Azalia’s condition is not responding to medications and she is suffering from horrible side effects. So, with her condition becoming worse, you can only imagine that Sheree and her whanau are just emotionally drained. They are nervous about their finances, as they take time off for appointments and sick days when Azalia is struggling, and the possibility of Sheree having to give up working to care for Azalia, things are very stressful.

I would love to be able to relieve a little of Sheree's stress, so if you can help out and donate a few dollars so that they can get better treatment for Azalia and sleep a little easier, that would be greatly appreciated.

UPDATE - 06/04/2019

Sheree and Kelvin finally got some answers...

(have your tissues close by)...

Three year old Azalia, has been diagnosed with a very rare genetic disease called CLN2 Batten Disease.

It is a terminal disease where she is expected to degenerate, as her cells are dying.

She is expected to be blind and in a wheel chair (completely reliant on Sheree and Kelvin) within a couple of years and her life expectancy is around 10-15 years old if not sooner!

Sheree and Kelvin have two other children, who have to now get tested as well, so you can only imagine how terrified they will be!

My heart goes out to Sheree and her whanau and I would love to be able to relieve a little of Sheree's stress.

So if you can help out and donate a few dollars so that they can push through life and possibly sleep a little easier, that would be greatly appreciated.

Sheree is one of my best mates and at this stage of our lives, her and her whanau are going through hard and trying times. I would like to ask for all of your help, support and love for her whanau as they battle through.

With incredible sadness but also relief we announce that Azalia passed away peacefully on Sunday night (13th October) at home just after 7pm. It has been incredibly emotional and absolutely unbelievable. We got our diagnosis in April and 6 months later Azalia has gained her wings! RIP our beautiful girl.
