our wee Ozzie has been shot by low lives. He dragged himself home days later with major injuries in a real bad way. In need of urgent care.
Waikato
Last year just before lock down in March we added this wee chap to our family. His name is Ozzie, He is a real character, loving but very independent. Ozzie had a rough start to life so we jumped at the chance to provide him an amazing opportunity with lots of space to be a cat. He has been amazing as our son is a only child and has received so much love from him and built a strong bond together.
Tuesday last week he didn't come home, although not like him, we assumed that he was having an extended adventure. Finally this morning he arrived back looking really rough, missing part of his mouth, ripped ear, covered in marks and seriously damaged, he could barely walk. We had no idea what had happened. Clearly he urgenty needed a vet! According to the vet, it turns out that someone has shot him in the face with a shotgun and he has been likely lying in a ditch somewhere, it was a miracle he made it home at all
His wounds are seriously infected and the vet removed lots of maggots from his many wounds. We have been informed that his front leg is shattered and if he survived would need to be amputated. As much as this is really upsetting for our family, unfortunately we are not in the position to pay the $5000 vet bill required to save him. Ozzie is currently at the vet overnight in cambridge , we didn't get photos and don't know if we will see him again.
we took Ozzie on a couple days before lockdown last year to give him a second chance after a rough start to life being a rescue cat. he has brought a lot of joy and love to our family and we are all heart broken to see our little guy in such a state.
All donated funds will go to vet bills for surgery of amputation of a leg and treatment of infections. Any surplus money donated will be donated to the SPCA for further help of all animals.
Ozzie Up Date 18 April 2021
Last Friday Ozzie had his leg amputated and the damage to his mouth repaired. The vet also removed quite a bit of metal which had been imbedded into his chest.
Today (Sunday) we visited him, he was very alert and very keen to get moving, certainly didn't seem too fazed. Although for us it was really heart breaking to see him without his leg for the first time. We are looking forward to getting him home again and tomorrow we will finally collect him, then at home he will need to remain in a fairly confined area in order to let his surgery heal over a couple of weeks. Till then he gets to wear the cone of shame to prevent him attacking his many stiches.
