Kick Cancer's Ass!!
Nelson
September 17th, 2021 was the day that our world absolutely shattered. My bestest friend, my rock, the absolute glue for my whānau, and open arms for many others, my Mum, was diagnosed with advanced bowel cancer and only 48. My mum lived an active and healthy lifestyle because she believed that it would help protect her from illnesses like this. When you hear the word “cancer” it is easy to think the worst, and it looked like that’s where we were heading. Surgery is not an option for Mum at any stage in her journey, and so my Mum has started chemo. My Mum has stopped working, and is putting all her energy and focus into her battle with cancer so that she can come out on the other side of this. She is exploring all options, conventional and holistic so that she can kick cancers ass.
My Mum is young, and has lots to live for, do and see! She needs to be there to pick up her mokopuna from school, she needs to be there for my wedding next year, she needs to be there for when my brother buys his first home and to be there to sneakily steal the remote off my Dad when he’s watching the sports channel with his eyes closed. My family and I would be forever grateful for any support to put towards the cost of unfunded cancer treatment and all other treatment options so that she can be there to do these things.

Avastin, a tumor-starving therapy is used with chemotherapy. Avastin (bevacizumab) and Erbitux (cetuximab), both unfunded drugs in NZ, can double or even triple the medium survival rate of patients with metastatic bowel cancer, costing $60,000 upwards.
