Paddle for the Sea

A team of dedicated 10 – 14 year old kids from LBSLSC take on the extreme challenge of paddling across Lake Taupo using paddleboards.
If you'd like to DONATE you can make a generic donation here. BACKSTORY: At over 40k in distance the crossing takes up to 6.5 hours, and has only ever been attempted three times in NZ history – and always by the Lyall Bay Ocean’s squad. This is a way to test their mettle in preparation for competing in the New Zealand under 14s Surf Life Saving Championships, held at Mt Manganui, every year, in March. During this gruelling test of stamina the kids break through personal boundaries and dig deep to find the inner strength to complete their journey. As a sponsored event this is a chance to associate yourself with an amazing show of self-discipline, teamwork and camaraderie from Club members as young as 10 years old. The kids signed up for this year's crossing are Sterling Maxwell, Eliah Ashby, Luke and Ben Kuggelejin, Jules and Louis Appleby, Jonas Glaudel, Reuben Kilgariff, Anna Bassett, Ruby Lucas, Millie and Maisie Day-Ellis, Sarah Tervoort and Georgina Huttley. What an amazing bunch! Watch last year’s crossing above:
