The family have suffered a devastating house fire which has left them with nothing. Your help would be much appreciated.

Wellington

In the early hours of the morning of 7 February, the family, including their 3 year old daughter and a guest, woke to find flames engulfing their much loved home. Thankfully they escaped unharmed, but they are left with only the clothes on their back. The Paekakariki community will help to get them back on their feet, but they need your support. The family will need funds for clothes, food and accommodation as a starting point and any donations would be extremely helpful and sincerely appreciated. Household items are not covered by their insurance policy. A generous donor has eloquently summed up our feelings -

"I don't know how to express how deeply tragic and horrifying this is... Thank the mercies of intuition that woke shaz up and gave them that one last minute to escape. Their home was like no other, with incredible collections of art and curios, painstakingly renovated inside to create a gorgeous 1900's sanctuary that lived and breathed as one of the family. Shaz has spent so many years helping others less fortunate, going about it in a quiet and humble manner... gifting her time, money and skills to those wless fortunate. So I don't gift this money as charity but as Koha in gratitude for all the work she has done for others.... what goes out comes back around and I hope it flows back 10fold for you my friend .Kia kaha and we will stand with you. Thank you all a million times over.....  17 February 2018

Hi everyone,

We just wanted to update you and extend our thanks to you all. It's been a heart wrenching week to say the least.

The support and assistance that you have all shown is totally humbling. From the lady who i handed Ruby to when i was climbing over the fence when we first emerged, to the unrelenting kindness and generosity of the Paekakariki community and abroad, to the beautiful kids who drew us pictures and baked biscuits, to the folks who have made meals, to friends, family, workmates and total strangers who have come together to support us by way of this page as well as clothes, toys and household items. Thank you a million times over.

Special thanks to Janet and Holly for being so calm and kind, Anita for sifting through the ruins to find anything recognisable, Mike, Marie and Lindsay, Miles & Louise, Jonathan and Alice, Michael and Sean, Sue and Mike, folks from Kapiti Council, The Learning Connexion, Fraser Fire, OPSM, Waikanae Baptist Op Shop, the Shields and our immediate families who are in as much shock as we are. There are just too many people to list......

We do have some good news to share, that is the cats have all been found and are being cared for by Michael. We also miraculously salvaged the pattern to make a new Miffy for Ruby, her cuddly lost in the fire. Its strange now what seems meaningful by way of possessions.

Again, thank you for your generosity. Here's to new beginnings... 2018 is going to be a great year (we're just going to start ours in April)

Arohanui,

Sharon

Sharon, nothing will replace what you lost. So so sad. This cannot begin to replace any of that. But hopefully helps a tiny bit with the little things you need in the meantime. M&L
