The Pene Jean Foundation will see Pene's work complete and her legacy live on after her 8 years of support to the underprivileged in Kenya.

Marlborough

The Pene Jean Foundation is now set up in memory of Pene Jean Sarjeant who sadly passed away suddenly on Friday 24th May. She left a big hole in the hearts of all whose lives she had touched along the way.

As the dust settles we are left to acknowledge a marvellous legacy of love, compassion and generosity. Pene worked selflessly with several projects in Kenya right up until her final chapter. Pene’s humble nature meant the scale of her many projects were never promoted and therefore we could never have comprehended the sheer magnitude of her work.

Pene first travelled to Kenya in 2011 and visited again on three further occasions. She helped to set up and fund projects in the communities she visited. One of these projects included the construction and support of 2 orphanages; setting them up for a sustainable future with their own agricultural program and food supply. She also provided funding that housed and educated 38 children from impoverished backgrounds.

In Pene's memory, we are hoping to see her work and mission completed. The Pene Jean Foundation has therefore been set up with the aim of continuing her charitable work, prioritising the education and nourishment of the children in schools and supporting the completion of her final orphanage construction project. This endeavour, in Isibania in southern Kenya, aims to provide housing and sustainability for many orphaned and abandoned children. The project has already made great progress with walls, roofing and windows installed on the purchased plot. The plumbing and plastering work remains outstanding.

Pene worked closely with individuals and organisations in the Kenyan communities, and her contributions were always acknowledged with itemised receipts, video/photo updates and written progress reports not to mention abundant appreciation and smiles.

The Pene Jean Foundation will be Co-Chaired by Ainslie Duncan and Robert Savage (Pene's youngest daughter and son) as well as having advisers with a working history in African aid and committee members who are familiar with Pene's work and processes.

Please feel free to contact us for further information or if you wish to contribute in any way.

Thank you.   1 October 2019

Thank you to everyone for your generous donations.

We are pleased to report we have got School fees away for the term and every child that was relying on Pene's support has received school fees as per her usual commitment. Some of these commitments include the 36 students students of the Mango Tree Academy of which I posted a photo last week.

It was one heck of a journey just getting a "Not for profit account" established but we got there in the end and with out your donations we would have been faced with some very difficult decisions.

Ainslie will travel to Kenya in December (Completey self funded) and will look to gain a greater understanding of Pene's work and access a sustainable path forward.

The Givealittle.co.nz page will remain open if you wish to donate or encourage others to donate in the future. We are currently working with Pene's family and community to establish what our future budget looks like based on frequent donations. If you would like to consider frequent donations we would love to hear from you @ pjfoundation4@gmail.com alternatively there is options on the Givealittle.co.nz page for frequent donations.

Thank you again and we look forward to sharing more updates.

Warmest regards,

Robert Savage.

The Pene Jean Foundation.
