Help a post-graduate student repay their mammoth library fine, and bring a thesis back from the Library's Gulag.
Wellington
Oh, hi there!
My name is Vinko and I'm a postgraduate student completing a Master of Arts at Victoria University of Wellington. Much of the research for my thesis is done using the university library's collection. Unfortunately, Victoria's collection is somewhat dated and depleted - much like New World Metro at five o'clock on a Friday evening. As a result I am forced to rely heavily upon "interloans" from other institutional collections, both in New Zealand and overseas. Whilst the service is an absolute lifeline and is nominally free of charge, the costs quickly mount due to the limited (and stringent) turn around deadlines and the exorbitant fines issued by the library.
These fines often accrue over weekends and university shutdown periods (like the Christmas and New Year's holiday), even when said books have been returned and are sitting in the purgatory of the returns box. Once a certain threshold has been crossed, borrowers are relegated to the icy academic gulag reserved for those who have a "hold" placed on their account due to their fines. It is thus, comrade Give-A-Little patron, after the three week Christmas/New Year's shut down with twenty-something interloans lying lonely and dejected in the returns slot, that I came to dwell on this desolate steppe, unable to borrow or order the obscure academic tomes that are the life blood of my thesis.
To cut a long story short: I currently have outstanding Library fines which prohibit me from using the library until the outstanding balance has been settled. I am currently in a precarious financial position and am unable to afford the $109 lump sum payment to bring the outstanding fines down (from $189) to the level where I can resume borrowing things and pay the remainder in increments (approximately $80).
Basically I am hoping to raise as much of the lump-sum as I can, through donations and what money I can otherwise scrape and scrounge. I realise that, yes, I should have gotten everything back before the close of business the day of the break - and that is a lesson now well and truly learnt!
If you do choose to help a fledgling archaeologist out, I hope to be able to repay you in kind by (if you would so wish) keeping you up to date with the progress of my research, a cup of decent coffee in a respectable establishment for a (I hope) interesting chat about the ancient world, life and the universe, and a bound copy of the MA when it finally gets finished (in March 2019). If in the unlikely event that more money than needed is raised, I will donate the difference to charity - either the SPCA, the Wellington DCM, or something similar (I haven't decided which yet)
Thank you! :)
Funds will be used to repay my outstanding Library fine balance ($189) down to a level where Library services can be accessed again (this is approximately $80). If any surplus money is raised I will donate the difference to a registered charity.
