Kingi Palmer is battling incurable stage 4 lung cancer. He is incredibly courageous. Please help Kingi so he can keep fighting and smiling.
Auckland
Kingi is a much loved husband and best friend to his wife Joanne, a loyal friend, adored family member and valued colleague and employee.
He has worked hard over the years to become the man he has always wanted to be. Kingi is a sports mad fan (especially rugby league), a proud Samoan man, fit, strong and otherwise healthy. It is because of his strength that his cancer was not detected earlier.
He touches the lives of all the people he meets and is known for his cheeky smile, sense of humour, caring nature and generosity to go out of his way to help anyone and everyone.
At the age of 41, we have been devastated to learn that Kingi has recently been given the diagnosis that he has incurable stage 4 lung cancer. This news has come as a bombshell to all those who know and love Kingi.
The Oncologists have advised Kingi the immunotherapy drug Keytruda (Pembrolizumab) would at least double his survival time compared with treatment of Chemotherapy alone. Despite being approved for use and proven to double the life expectancy of non-small cell lung cancer patients like Kingi, unfortunately this drug is not yet funded for lung cancer patients in New Zealand (there are numerous articles in support of this).
It is a very expensive drug only available through private cancer care. The cost has been quoted at $80,000 for the immunotherapy drug alone with additional ongoing costs for administration, scans and specialist fees on top of that figure.
We need your help to pay for this essential and lifesaving treatment and expenses for Kingi.
Kingi has been amazingly strong and retained a positive outlook throughout this extremely difficult time and his courage is inspirational to all who come into contact with him.
He is an extremely hard worker and loves interacting with his work family, suppliers and customers whom he also considers friends. At present he is managing to work part time and his goal is to return to full time work.
You only get one chance at this life so please support us by giving Kingi the gift of time. This is how you can reciprocate all the kindness and love Kingi has given others.
His loved ones want to keep Kingi with them for as long as possible. Please support Kingi on this journey to keep him smiling and fighting for his future. Where there is life there is hope!
I'm a close friend of Kingi and Joanne. Any time that we have with Kingi is precious. Please help to keep him with us for many years to come.
The funds raised will be used to pay for life extending Keytruda immunotherapy drug treatment and any other treatments that will extend and enhance Kingi’s life.
