Plonkers Vet bills

  • last update

      3 December 2020

Sadly Plonker had to be euthanised after developing a nasty infection from a bad tooth. During the blood tests before the tooth extraction he was found to has cat leukemia which made him prone to bad infections and there is no cure for this. it was a vey sad day after having fought for a better life for him. HIs love he gave to me still is with me.

Hi there Plonker is doing a lot better I’ve put him on a fresh meat diet and since he loves biscuits so much I’m trying him on the iiams urinary care ones. He is still on the clomicalm which seems to help him stay chill. He seems to be putting on a bit of weight too which is good because he has always been a very small cat. He’s such a loving boy ❤️

  • January update

      23 January 2020

I started to cut back Plonker on his clomicalm to see how well it was working. I slowly reduced the dose so he didnt have any bad effects of coming off them cold turkey. After a few weeks I had got him down to half of his dose he started stalking the other cats(fixed females), and calling for them all night long and then started peeing on my bed...so needless to say hes back on them and has chilled out again. I didnt want him on any meds if he didnt need them but apparently he does, Ill be checking in with the vet when I need a new prescription for him.

  • Christmas update

      21 December 2019

Plonker had a little hiccup the other day, with blood in his urine and showing other signs of possible urine problems again. Not sure, what caused it but I decided to increase the special wet food he eats to help breakdown any new crystals that mayve formed. He seems a bit more settled again fingers crossed we dont have another scare. I would also like to thank those that have helped Plonker so far, it is very much appreciated :)

  • Good progress

      20 November 2019

Plonker is still doing good on his special food, he seems to quite like it as he waits at his bowl for his special food while I feed the others their food. He does still try be sneaky and want to swap sometimes lol.

  • doing better

      21 October 2019

Plonker has picked a food he likes the taste of out of the two brands that make food for his condition. Because we have other cats in the house which eat the supermarket variety cat food, he tries to swap his food with the other cats, so I have to stay vigilant watching him eat and removing the other cats food when they are done. He seeems a lot better on this food and has found his voice, never really heard him meow before lol. This diet is ongoing for life, but its worth it to see him not struggle or be in pain. I hope this is the key to him being healthy-time will tell.

  • Plonkers update

      3 October 2019

Its been a busy time since Plonker got back home. During the last week Ive been trying to get Plonker to try a new diet to manage the crystal formation in his urinary tract, were still working on that lol. He lost his appetite after coming home and then got a cold so eating hasnt been easy to do for him. Hes lost a lot of weight. Ive just been trying to hand feed him little bits. This morning he ate a healthy amount..fingers crossed. The vet recommended for him to stay inside for 2 weeks which he hasnt been too worried about. I have taken him outside for a small walk on nicer days which seemed to pick him up a bit. Hopefully I can find a food he is happy with.

  • Emergency Vet visit

      24 September 2019

The vet was able to relieve the blockage, apparently there was a lot of debris and crystals in his urether. He stayed overnight to be monitored and to give pain relief. Im hoping he can come home today. Since there were crystals present, it sounds like diet is going to be the best way to manage this going forward. Going to discuss a plan further today.

  • Emergency Vet visit

      23 September 2019

Plonker had a rough weekend, took him to the vet today and they say his urinary system is blocked. They are currenty giving him pain relief and will do the procedure to unblock him, this is done under sedation with a catheter to empty the bladder. He may have to stay in for a few days while they make him comfortable and clear out any crystals if they are present. Hope he pulls through

  • Update after emergency vet visit

      5 September 2019

Plonker was in quite a lot of pain from not being able to urinate properly. The vet said he wasnt completely blocked and from his recent urine samples he didnt have crystals in his urine. I brought him home with pain relief and we got throught the night with him being able to urinate a bit to get some comfort. Now being a few days after the visit, he is still having problems urinating but seems to release a bit to get comfort. He started his new drug cystaid so hoping hell get more relidf once it has kicked in a bit.
