Help provide our mum with accomodation in Auckland during Dad's Bone Marrow Transplant

$13,505 of $3,000 goal
Given by 177 generous donors in 21 days

Help our mum to have 3-4 weeks accomodation close to Auckland Hospital where our dad is undergoing a Bone Marrow Transplant for Leukemia.

Waikato

As many of you may know, our Dad has recently been diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia and has just finished his second round of chemo. The process so far has entailed a week of chemotherapy treatment with 4-6 weeks intensive recovery in hospital while his immune system regenerates and fights infections. Throughout this time Mumma Polley has been by his side every day travelling to and from the hospital and our house.

Dad is now entering his third and final stage of treatment, where he is undergoing a Bone Marrow Transplant. This intensive procedure is held in Auckland and will be 4-6 weeks of chemo, followed by transplant then recovery, all in Auckland Hospital. This will be followed by 2-3 months of recovery, where he will need a full-time caregiver (Mum), to support Dad with daily visits to the hospital and he will likely be quite unwell for most of the recovery. Mum and Dad will be provided accommodation by the Cancer Society for the 2-3 months of recovery, however, we have just found out that Mum is not eligible for the accommodation during the first 4 weeks, when Dad is undergoing the transplant and is at his most vulnerable.

Ideally we would like Mum to be able to be with Dad for the full 4 weeks up in Auckland and we do have accommodation available 30-40 mins away from the hospital. However, the three of us kids think it would be a lot easier, less stressful for Mum and less stressful for Dad, if Mum could be based in Auckland city centre where she can be with Dad if he needs her, in a few minutes. Unfortunately, the cost of accom for 4 weeks, even at a conservative $100 per night ($2800), is a lot of money that our family does not have at this time. We have therefore decided, against our parents wishes, to create a Give-a-little page as we know a few people have offered to support them with accom, but Mum and Dad have kindly declined.

Dad begins his treatment on the 21st of November and this is when we would begin using the funds to help pay for mum's accom. If you feel that you would like to contribute in some way and support Mum and Dad we would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you so much!!  25 November 2019

Just a quick update: Mom and Dad are super overwhelmed with everyones generosity and are so thankful for the donations received so far. Dad's admission has been put back two weeks so will now be going into hospital around the 8th of December. We have also found out that the Mom will only be receiving an allowance for the second half of the treatment instead of having accommodation provided so we are so thankful to everyone who donated over and above our goal of $3000!
