Otago

The photo above is Davey (Greyhound/Bully cross) upon arrival at the pound (9 years old), after being found in a pig hunting area at Mt Misery, someone had tied him up, perhaps thinking the hunter would find him, but it was a couple of days and no one came. He was very very thin, had infected puncture wounds, old scars and was very hand shy. I ended up fostering, then adopting Davey. He needed a couple of fractured K9's extracted. He quickly gained weight, and confidence.

The video of him on the couch is a part of what his retirement looks like.

Pound Paws Rescue, based in Oamaru, North Otago (we cover further afield).

We are a not for profit organisation and are all volunteer workers, (we are not the pound). We are totally self funded and rely on fundraising efforts and donations from the public.

The dogs that come into our care come from a variety of places - pounds, farms, vets and the community. Our dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, micro-chipped, registered, flea/worm treated. We ask for a donation towards these costs.

All of our dogs are housed in foster homes (we do not have a kennel/adoption facility). We are always on the look out for good foster homes that are securely fenced, have someone home part of the day, have good dog experience and use fear/force free training methods. We supply the food, blankets, crate, vet care, and support.

We are looking for extra special permanent homes that are willing to go the extra miles and are 100% committed to provide an enriched, happy, stable home life. We have an adoption process, which includes an application form, property visit (safe, secure fencing is super important), back ground checks. All going well, we then arrange a meet and greet with the dog. (We do not send the dogs away on transporters). We never rush our dogs into new homes. We understand that adoption is not for everyone, the most important thing is to find the dog that best suits your (and the dogs) needs.
