Furious Riding – the Chauvet Libeau and Hedgman Libeau Families of Akaroa 1840-1920 is a fascinating read for those interested in New Zealand’s colonial history and in particular the French settlement at Akaroa. It has been a voluntary ten-year project, researched and written by Angela Pyke and Kevin Clark, sixth and seventh generation descendants of Magdelaine Chauvet and Joseph Libeau, drawing on a wide range of archival information, research, stories, documents and photos from family members.and discussions and insights from many people.
We are seeking to raise $6000 so that we can keep the sale price of the book at a reasonable level (NZ$44 + postage and packaging.) This is $20 less than the cost of publication.
If you would like to purchase a copy or copies of the book, please email: kevin_clark@xtra.co.nz for an order form or click on the following link

Angela and Kevin have researched and written this book over the last 10 years with the help of many family members and other people through their stories, documents, photographs, discussions and insights.
The cost of designing and printing 300 copies is $17000. This includes editing ($2000), design ($7000), printing ($7200) and associated costs, e.g. use of photos ($800). We are hoping to raise $11000 from book sales leaving a deficit of $6000.
