Ra was involved in a freak accident that left him with a serious neck injury.

Nationwide

On Saturday night (December 16th) Ra was involved in a freak accident while competing in Muay Thai. He fractured and twisted one of vertebrae, putting pressure on his spinal cord. After emergency surgery to relieve the pressure Ra was flown to Burwood Spinal Unit in Christchurch for specialised care.

Whatever the outcome, it's going to be a long road to recovery. This page is to help cover the costs of his immediate and ongoing care.

Ra's partner and family have travelled to Christchurch to be with him, and some of the funds raised will also be used to help them be there throughout his recovery.

We're all trying to stay as positive as we can in this situation and do whatever we can for Ra. Anyone who knows Ra, knows he's a fighter through and through. Any and all support is appreciated!

I train with Ra at Alpha Muay Thai, our little gym is like a family. I'm just doing my best to help in a difficult time.

Use of funds

Funds raised will go towards Ra's ongoing medical care, as well as helping support his partner and his family where possible.

At this stage we’re not sure what ACC will cover; if anything.

**Update 18/12 Ra may be eligible for ACC income cover. We will know more once we get through the next phase of his recovery**

Counting down to Burwood!  12 January 2018

Every little bit of progress is a huge milestone for this amazing man 👊

A few days ago Ra was transferred into his first wheelchair. Each day Ra spends a small amount of time in the chair just getting his body used to being upright.

Ra was able to swallow for the first time (he hasn't been allowed to because of all the tubes down his throat etc) which meant he could smash back a fruji iceblock. He'll be hanging out till he can have his first proper meal!!

Ra tried out a new computer device where he can control a computer using head movement.

AND the most exciting part is that after one month, we are finally leaving ICU next week and being transferred to Burwood Spinal Rehab Centre - this is where all the hard work will really begin.

Ra - you continue to amaze us all every single day with your inner strength and determination!
