To raise funds to purchase drugs to prolong the life of my sister.
Wellington
Hi there
In July 2018, my sister Rachel was diagnosed with breast cancer. After undergoing surgery in August 2018 it was confirmed in September 2018 as stage 4. This means that while there are a number of different treatments available, it is currently not curable and Rachel will be on drugs for the rest of her life.
Some of these drugs such as Ibrance-Palbociblib, a CDK4/6 inhibitor that stops the growth of cancer for a period of time, are very expensive. These currently cost $285 a pill which equates to $6,000 per month. Insurance has declined her claim to fund part of this as they are not administered in a hospital rather in a pill at home. There is a funding assistance program from Pfizer so Rachel ‘only’ has to pay the first $66,000....
At the insistence of family and friends, we have set up this Give a Little page to raise funds for the purchase of Ibrance. On behalf of our family, our heartfelt thanks for taking the time to read this page and for anybody able to contribute towards the cost of drugs that will prolong Rachel's life, enabling her to spend more time with family and friends and especially with her two children Ivy and Clark.
Thanks - from her sisters Lucy, Kate, Wendy and Joanne and her parents Robyn and Geoff xx
I am her sister and want to help out to ease the financial burden of metastatic breast cancer.
The money will be spent to purchase Ibrance and associated medical costs.
Update from Rachel 8 February 2019
Thank you!
I found it really awkward when Lucy set up this page for me, it’s such a difficult situation having to ask for money. But my family and I have been absolutely blown away by the amazing support we’ve received. It is truly surreal to know that so far you amazing people have funded my first three cycles of Ibrance.
I feel humbled and so so grateful for the support.
I particularly want to thank Lucy for setting this up (and receiving an alert for every donation), and to James, Kris, Jesse, Andrew, Kate, Julia, Frith and Colin (and probably others that I’m not aware of or have slipped through the cracks of my chemo brain) for forwarding my page details, and to every single donor - unfortunately I can’t thank everyone personally!
Arohanui xx
Rachel
