Help with the rebuild and restoration of DA 1401
Manawatu / Whanganui
DA 1401
This was the first Da to be used in revenue service with the NZR in 1955. It entered service on 23rd of August 1955. It was converted to Daa1401 for use at Te Rapa hump yards in 1971. This involved fitting a low-speed reostat control, which could be cut-out when mainline speeds were required, This equipment is still operational today.
It is one of three Phase 1 Das left in preservation.
Feilding and District Steam Rail Society was formed with the intention of restoring heritage locomotives & carriages to provide rides and the joy of steam back to the community
We need to have the following done on the locomotive to get it back on the mainline again.
1. New brake system to bring it up to standard $10,000
2. Fire suppression required for passenger hauling $20,000
3. Paint the body and frame of locomotive
