Kia ora!

A wee introduction...

Founded in the UK in 2017, the Red Box Project is branching out to Whangārei, Aotearoa! The aim is to tackle the increasing issue of period poverty in our community.

Problem: In New Zealand, some young women in our schools are finding it difficult to access sanitary products.

Result: Tearful panics in the loo. Wadded up toilet roll. Anxious embarrassment. Missed lessons. Missed education.

Solution: The Red Box Project collects donations of sanitary products and undies from members of our community and puts them into red boxes to give to local schools. The Red Box Project supports disadvantaged young women throughout their entire period.

Community driven - Donations are given in the community, for the community!

Use of funds

Purchase of red boxes for donations and schools, underwear to use for emergency packs, and sanitary items where required (although we largely rely on donations).

We currently have boxes at Whangarei Girls High, Kamo High, Tiki High, Whangarei Intermediate. We are also waiting to hear back from other 8 primary schools

Moving forward  28 February 2020

Kia ora everyone,

I have some news regarding the Red Box Project:

It has been a wonderful journey over the last couple of years, bringing the Red Box Project to Whangarei and seeing it grow and support so many of our girls. It's been humbling to experience such amazing support from the community, and rewarding to hear what a difference it has made in people's lives.

The Red Box Project has now closed down in the UK as they have successfully lobbied the government for fully funded supplies for schools! This is something that several organisations are working on in New Zealand but haven't managed to get through parliament yet. The timing has worked out well as I've been running this as a one-woman show and my personal life has begun to get busier and busier, with study and work commitments growing. I could see myself being unable to give this project the love it needs in the near future, so have gratefully given over the reins of looking after our schools to One For Her.

They will take over the collection of products and distribution of these to the schools we currently support across Whangarei, and will take them under the One for Her umbrella, so you'll see the signage changing

Thank you all for your love, and please continue to support this important cause with One For Her ❤️

Thank you all again,

Kate
