Help relieve the pressure for thousands of New Zealanders who are affected by a broken back or neck. Please make a donation today.
Nationwide
Three Kiwis a week are left paralysed by a broken back or neck. I'm sure you know someone. A car crash, a sports injury, an illness or a fall can do it. In a second, lives are changed forever.
Could you adjust? For many, the pressure is simply too much. You can imagine the pressure on relationships, jobs, hobbies and the whole new world they have to cope with.
There is a common misconception that our services are fully funded by government, but this is not the case. This year the New Zealand Spinal Trust lost a crucial funding source, and the pressure is really on to continue providing support services to relieve the pressure for Kiwis who have been affected by a broken back or neck.
Please support our National Appeal which runs for one week between 5-12 September
Our mission is to empower people with spinal cord impairments and their whānau to embrace positive futures. We provide support and information services across New Zealand to help people overcome challenges, create strong networks, and pursue opportunities following their spinal impairment.
We'll continue providing services to help relieve the pressure for Kiwis who have been affected by a broken back or neck. These include helping people get back to work, peer support, and specialist training and rehabilitation information.
Are you one of those people? 13 September 2018
In the last week we were truly blown away by the many hundreds who answered yes. They risked embarrassment in front of a crowd, all to support New Zealanders in need, New Zealanders under immense pressure because of a broken back or neck.
Our week long appeal is now officially over, but it's not too late to help if you'd still like to.
THREE A WEEK
Many of the hundreds who stepped into a wheelchair to take up the obstacle course challenge at the Palms Mall and University of Canterbury where shocked at how difficult it was to navigate the short course in a wheelchair, and the fact that three Kiwis a week are paralysed by a spinal cord injury was sobering.
SMILES AND LAUGHS
But in the spirit in which the events were intended there were only laughs, friendly competition, and generosity shown. Thank you so much to all who participated, volunteered, supported and cheered on from the sidelines. It was a huge success and we are grateful for your support. WHERE DO THE FUNDS GO?
It costs us over a million dollars to provide peer and family support, back to work support, and specialist training and knowledge services to New Zealanders affected by a spinal cord injury. This year we are under increased pressure to make up for a lost funding source.
As of writing, $14,000 from 200+ generous donors, has been raised.
Thank you to all who gave generously in the last week, both financially and otherwise. We really appreciate you.
