Air search for Toa the Orcas Pod.
Marlborough
This give a little page is for Toa the beautiful little Orca who has lost his pod after being washed up into a rockpool in Plimmerton, Wellington on Wednesday July 14th.
We are raising funds towards chartering a plane especially to search for Toa's pod around the top of the south island.
A one hour flight costs $400 for plane and fuel costs.
Toa's family were sighted on the 17th of July near the kapiti coast. Orca can travel quite far in a short time but they seem to be not moving too far away as they have also been spotted in the Tory Chanel, Marlborough Sounds over the last few days.
For now he seems ok and feeding well which is great however it is very important he gets back to his pod as soon as possible. The longer it takes the more likely it is his pod may move on. His mother's milk may dry up after not feeding.
It is just amazing how much support Toa has received from great team caring for him and the public, just wonderful.
Please share, keep watch, take photos if you can and report any sightings to 0800 362 468
Let's reunite this little guy with his family!
Liasing and arranging flights with local pilots.
Money raised will go directly towards Searching for Toa's pod by plane around the top of the South Island.
If the pod is found before the planned search date and sightings are no longer needed I would like to donate to Whale Rescue NZ (http://whale-rescue.org/) or Project Noah NZ (https://www.projectjonah.org.nz/).
Farewell Toa 24 July 2021
Last night we received some very sad news of baby Toa and his passing.
What an impact he made on so many people's lives. It was just astounding how much support there has been for him and the search for finding his family.
We all did our best including little Toa who lived up to his name while he was here, brave and strong.
The funds will be donated to a non for profit organisation who provide logistical and practical expertise and equipment for the rescue of whales and dolphins in New Zealand.
Thank you so very much for your generosity and hope to help Toa.
If you would like to continue helping whales and dolphins here are some organisations to follow.
