Rico’s cancer battle

Rico has recently been fighting for his life after being diagnosed with paraspinal sarcoma cancer at a young age of 18.

With all of the support of his family, he decided to start his journey off with radiation. This finished up just before Christmas so that he could come home & spend cherished time with everybody before planning chemotherapy for early 2022.

As of yesterday (04/01) he had been rushed to Masterton hospital due to his oxygen levels dropping down and noticing a huge difference in his breathing. It had been confirmed that the cancer has now travelled into his lungs and is spreading rapidly which means there is no longer anything that can be done.

He had to stay overnight due to getting a blood transfusion and had been asked by the nurses/docs if he wanted to either stay there or head home the day after, he of course insisted on going home.

As the night went by, his breathing got worse and we had docs coming into the room talking to us about how he may not make it through the night but we all knew Rico was fighting to get back home.

Thankfully he made it through the night & on Wednesday morn (05/01) he had some good cheeky banter with family and couldn’t wait to get home to play some Xbox. As soon as the ambo & home oxygen system was ready, he was out the doors ready to go home.

Now that he is back home, it’s all about spending this quality time with him and his whanau around supporting him through the end of this challenging journey.

Rico is the most kind hearted sweetest boy I know, he is strong & fighting for every breathe he takes. Nor him or his family deserve to go through such a horrible heartbreak, nobody does.

All funds raised will go towards assisting both Rico & the family during this tough time of him being home. We want to make every moment full of precious moments for him 💜
