The main aim of our organisation is to improve the physical and emotional well being of children in the Far North, with disabilities
Northland
Happy children who are learning through riding activities, to interact with adults, other riders and 'their horse', are children who will improve in their self esteem and confidence. Those with physical disabilities are often helped with their balance, hip movement, muscle control and hand-eye co-ordination. Many have behavioural problems and it is amazing how learning to respect and interact with their horse, listen to commands and having an experience
'outside the classroom' can bring improvement. All of this has immediate benefit at home and at school. In the long term the rider with improved skills has a far better prospect for interaction in the community as an adult. Feedback from caregivers/teacher aides/family tell us that riding programmes help the children to focus on their schoolwork and they are more settled both at home and at school.
We are involved because we see a valued difference in the children that have participation in the Kaitaia Riding for the Disabled, We need more volunteers and and committee members to help and some of these volunteers come from a great distance. We also need help with the Care of the horses which can sometimes be costly as well as maintenance of the facilities.
The objects for which the group is established which objects are charitable and to be exercised within the Kaitaia area of New Zealand are to provide horse riding opportunities to facilitate the training and rehabilitation of disabled persons in the Kaitaia District whose physical and mental health is likely to benefit from such participation.
The grant will be used to cover our basic operating costs of Power, telephone, Audit fees and insurance costs. We receive no Government funding and rely on organisations such as yourselves to continue our operation.
