Auckland
On 12th Jan 2019 my sister/cousin Rosaline Falemai Filimaea received the devastating news that she had Terminal Cancer – specifically Acute Myeloid Leukaemia. The news was so unexpected and came completely out of the blue as she has always been a healthy person. Doctors recommended immediate treatment as it was a fast-spreading cancer. As you can imagine this type of news takes time to fully sink in, in her own words “it was so surreal, seeing and hearing the doctor say the words, nothing was registering, my mind just went blank, it felt like I was playing out a script in a movie. These things happen to other people, never imagined it would happen to me.”
Rosaline underwent several rounds of strong chemotherapy, staying at Auckland hospital 5 weeks at a time, returning home for a couple of weeks to be with family, then back to the hospital for more treatment. Chemotherapy however did not fully cure the cancer so the next option was a bone marrow transplant. She was fortunate to receive a donor from Texas, USA and the transplant went extremely well, the recovery was slow and painful but she fought hard and came through the other side in full remission.
On the 8th Dec 2020 while on her second day at full time employment, Rosaline received heart-breaking news that the cancer was back and this time more aggressively. Treatment options are limited and TIME is critical. Treatment will be focused on giving her more time with her family.
Rosaline has an amazing life partner in her husband Ailolo Togisia Filimaea who has been her pillar of strength during this difficult journey, along with her 3 beautiful children, Teresa, Kalani and Ikenasio Jnr. She is the only child to two loving elderly parents who they live with and look after. This news has come as a shock especially so close to Christmas, but everyone is keeping strong in our faith, hope and belief in the power of prayer and for a miracle. Time is so precious, every moment to reflect, enjoy, be happy surrounded in the love of family and friends. She is humbled, thankful and blessed with the love and support of her family, and taking each day as it comes.
Rosaline is an extremely private person but at this time we feel the easiest thing we can all do for her and her family is to help contribute to the huge ongoing costs of living with cancer as she can no longer work, and for whatever time she may have. Unfortunately the costs associated with cancer can mount up and includes nutritional supplements, alternative health treatments, doctor’s visits, prescriptions, emotional & stress support, loss of income and the day-to-day cost of supporting parents and children.
We seek and need your help at this time, to help a family in need as their much loved mother, wife, daughter continues her battle with cancer, she absolutely needs more time with her family to share and make special lifetime memories. Whatever you are able to spare and donate generously we greatly appreciate and graciously THANK YOU.
We wish you and your families a blessed Christmas filled with hope, peace, joy and love.❤💜
Rosaline is my first cousin, realistically we are like blood sisters. Born and raised together, grew up with each other and have shared so many wonderful memories throughout the years.
Funds will be used for ongoing treatments, both traditional and alternative, palliative care, prescription and doctor's visits, and any other day-to-day care she might need.
