Gisborne
On October 12th I will be running (staggering) my first 100km Ultramarathon. I figured the best way to help me finish was to raise funds for a cause dear to my heart. That way when the going gets tough I can't quit.
I love animals, very obvious with my bombardment of Facebook posts concerning rehoming, rescues etc. Recently I started volunteering at our local SPCA centre after dropping off an abandoned puppy I had found. I now see firsthand the time, dedication, love & financial expense that is given to these formerly abused, neglected & abandoned animals.
The Gisborne SPCA is a small old centre having to deal with vast area that, unfortunately has a high rate of animal abuse & neglect. Thanks to the outstanding work of the inspectors, Centre workers, fosterers & volunteers many animals are given a second chance at life. All this with no direct government funding.
I currently volunteer with the dogs. Walking them, cuddling & showering them with love & kindness. Showing them that not all humans are abusers. It's amazing watching the transformation in their behaviour. Last week I was able to walk one of the pups for 2km, this pup had been too scared to leave the Centre for the previous 3 weeks. She loved her walk, tail wagging, eyes bright & occasionally checking in that all was okay. Patience, love & understanding brought her out of her shell.
Every cent raised will go to the welfare of the animals;
$25 will provide medical treatment for 1 injured animal
$30 will vaccinate a rabbit
$50 will keep an inspectors van on the road for 1 day
$100 will de-sex, vaccinate & microchip 1 cat preparing to find its forever home
$150 will provide medical treatment & care for a litter of kittens & mum
$210 will give a puppy a warm bed for a week
$500 will de-sex litter of 5 kittens
$720 will provide dental care for 6 horses
$1000 will provide emergency medical treatment to a severely injured animal.
I'm a volunteer at Gisborne SPCA & see first hand the hard work, love & dedication given to the animals...all on the smell of an oily rag.
All monies raised will be spent on caring for the animals at the Gisborne SPCA
