Running for Nyahs future

Three off road running events, each longer than the last 21km, 42km and finally 60km. Inspired by and raising money for Nyah.

Wellington

I’m running a half-marathon, a marathon and an ultra marathon in the next six months. I want to raise huge amounts of money for my daughter to be the very best Nyah that she can be and I am hoping that running crazy distances will do just that.

BACKGROUND

We found out at the 20 week scan that Nyah had a heart condition, further tests revealed that she also had Down Syndrome.

This was a huge shock to us, we processed a lot and then she arrived and we fell instantly in love with her. We knew that all would be fine, and that her life will be full and happy.

She has been through so much already in her first six months. Spending 105 days in hospital including three weeks at Starship where she underwent open heart surgery. She now has an amazing zipper scar and a newly conditioned ticker, and is ready to run rings round her Mum and Dad.

WHY AM I DOING THIS?

I look on attempting the three events both as a challenge, and as an opportunity, one that in the future I can use to show Nyah that anything is possible if you set your mind and heart to it.

We know that as Nyah grows there will be challenges and opportunities. Nyah will need speech therapy, neuro-development and physical therapy all of which inevitably cost money.

Our aspiration is to set up a trust that provides Nyah with the ability to make the most of every opportunity through the entirety of her life.

If we are lucky enough that my fundraising endeavours raise a significant amount (greater than $1000). We will form that trust to ensure that Nyah has access to any extra help/assistance/development that she requires.

Richard Hopkins' involvement (page creator)

I am lucky enough to call Nyah my daughter. She has inspired me to attempt this long unrealised dream of completing an ultra marathon.

Nyah may only be 6 months old, but having been through so much to get to where we are already has taught me to make the most of every day.
