We are in desperate need to meet a 350% increase in the demand for foodparcels

Auckland

Thank you for your support during the latest Covid lockdown. Your support has enabled us to deliver 1,000 foodparcels a week for the last six weeks and helped to meet the demand for families in need during the lockdown. This works out at 300,000 meals we have been able provide families with your support. Our goal continues to be to relieve poverty in South Auckland by distributing food and other basic supplies to people who are poor, in need, aged or suffering genuine hardship; and to provide relief by establishing and providing budgeting, counseling and other programs.

As with most organisations, COVID has had a major impact on SACFB; but unlike other businesses, this has meant we are experiencing over a 350% increase in demand for foodparcels. We need your help to allow us to meet this increased demand.

Many families are facing reduced income due to COVID-19 restrictions and many other factors. Sadly many families are struggling through this. We are one of the few Foodbanks that deliver to people’s homes which is critical when the risks of being outside are high. Many of these people have seen a significant drop in income due to less or no work.

For the past 14 years we have been delivering over 50 food parcels per day (or 4092 meals per day or greater than 1 million meals per annum). The demand is now in excess of 200 food parcels per day (or 14285 meals per day). This is costing us $1,000 a day for the additional food and labour costs and anything you can do to help us support the families in need will be greatly appreciated.

Support letter from one of our partners: We are greatly appreciative to the team at South Auckland Christian Food Bank (SACFB) for the work that they do to support us and the South Auckland community as a whole. Their vision to not only meet the immediate needs of whanau, but also to support them to be sustainably self-sufficient aligns with our own and we are grateful for the support they give to our Pacific community in South Auckland. Many of our clients and their families have received the generosity of the SACFB through delivered food parcels when they have been declined food support by Work and Income. They provide quality food parcels for which our clients are incredibly grateful for.
