Join Sarah at the 2018 Youth Olympics in Argentina as she proudly represents New Zealand in sport climbing!
Wellington
Sarah is 17 and absolutely crazy about climbing. She has been climbing for five years and been competing for over 2 years.
All her hard work has come together this year and Sarah is now the first ever New Zealand climber to qualify and be selected for the Youth Olympic Games.
She secured her place at the Youth Olympics by cleaning up at the Oceania Climbing Championships in October of this year. She saw off competition from around the Pacific to achieve the highest overall placing in the combined disciplines of lead, speed and bouldering, taking home three gold medals for New Zealand.
The Youth Olympics will be held in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 2018. For the next year Sarah is committing her life towards preparing herself for the Youth Olympics. This is where you come in.
We want passionate supporters to enable Sarah to keep her focus on her training and development.
She is leaving home and moving to Tauranga where she will train for the next year at an elite level. She will also receive advice and support from the Adams Centre for High Performance as an elite athlete. Part of this journey includes competing internationally at 2-3 events.
Climbing will feature for the first time at the summer Olympics in Tokyo in 2020. We want New Zealand there and you can help. There is a lot of work ahead so Sarah is able to do her very best at the Games and make New Zealand proud!
First up we need at least $2,500 to simply help fund Sarah to compete at the Youth Olympics (unlike the full Olympics, youth athletes must contribute towards their attendance).
As Sarah's very proud Mum, I am involved in this worthy cause. I know Sarah will give it her all to do her very best for herself and New Zealand at the 2018 Youth Olympics.
But if we hit our target early, then there's still a lot more to fund including:
- travel costs and entry fees for competing at international events including next year's Youth World Cup
- climbing gear (climbing shoes, climbing chalk, harnesses, clothing)
- elite coaching / high performance fees and subsidies
We would love for you to come on board and join Sarah as she represents New Zealand at the Youth Olympics!
Thank you for your support 12 September 2018
It is only a few weeks now until Sarah represents New Zealand in sport climbing at the Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires.
We are going to close down this Givealittle page so we can pay the costs for Sarah and her coach to travel to and stay in Argentina with the NZ team while Sarah competes at the Games. The remaining funds will go to Sarah to help her continue her training into 2019.
It's been almost a year since we started this page. Since then, Sarah has been on an incredible journey of training and competing so she can do her absolute best at the Games. It's easily been the most exciting year of her life so far!
To everyone who has supported Sarah on this journey, we can't thank you enough for your assistance. It has been humbling and awe-inspiring.
We will continue to post updates on Sarah's Facebook page and on Instagram - links here:

The Youth Olympics is not the end of the journey for Sarah but the beginning of Sarah's professional career in competitive climbing, with the 2024 Olympics in her sights even at this early stage.
Your amazing support has helped inspire Sarah to continue on her journey, and again, thank you.
